JUNIOR TIMELINE
June-Juniors
Do community service
Informally visit any type of college nearby any vacation sites
Any student who has not passed all the required parts of the 9th grade
level Ohio proficiency may attend the summer intervention class and then
take the needed tests in mid July
July-Juniors
Continue doing community service work
Informally visit any type of college nearby any vacations spots
Search different career/interests possibilities for the future - use
websites, books, talk with people etc.
August-Juniors
Continue doing community service work
Informally visit any type of colleges nearby any vacation sites
View career/college websites
Check your schedule you receive in the mail. Does it match up with what you need? (See the AHS student handbook for graduation requirements) (see individual college catalogs for other requirements)
If you think there needs to be a change in your schedule due to a change in your future plans call the high school and make an appointment to see your counselor.
If planning on a 4 year college, pick up an ACT/SAT packet in mid August and decide when you will register for this.
September-Juniors

Create/update a scholarship file at home for necessary papers.
Plan on taking the PSAT next month as a practice college entrance test- register in the guidance office.
Register to attend the PSAT/SAT prep workshop.
Begin the college search process (use books, websites, talk with graduates.) Generate a list of 10- 20 schools that may meet your criteria. Write to these schools, call these schools for information on admission.
If planning on playing sports in college, write to college coaches at
colleges you are interested in. Describe your interest in their school
and your experience in sports. Include a high school sport schedule.
Keep your grades up.
Attend college fairs, they are common in early fall, watch the newspaper
and guidance bulletin board!
October-Juniors
Take the PSAT.
Any junior who has not passed all the required 9th grade level Ohio proficiency tests must take them the third week in October. Talk to your teachers, ask for help. PREPARE!!

weekly.

Attend the parent/student meeting in our auditorium on the post secondary enrollment option.
Complete your 12th grade schedule for next year. Check graduation credits.

Any athlete hoping to play college sports at a Division 1 or 2 college must fill out the NCAA Clearinghouse form, send in the top copy with the fee to the Clearinghouse and bring in the last 2 copies to the guidance office. Code 9999 on SAT and/or ACT registrations for test scores to be
sent to NCAA.
AP exams are in May.
Make plans for visiting colleges this summer, this really helps the Senior
year.
